The Peak Launches Canadian Salary Index to Bring More Transparency to Pay

July 27, 2026 by Techtalent.ca Newsdesk

How much are Canadians really earning?

The Peak is hoping thousands of workers will help answer that question through the new Canadian Salary Index, a crowdsourced database designed to provide a clearer picture of compensation across the country.

The platform invites Canadians to anonymously submit information about their roles, employers, industries, locations, experience, and working arrangements. Participants can report annual salaries or hourly wages alongside bonuses, commissions, stock compensation, and other benefits.

The Peak plans to aggregate the submissions into a dataset spanning Canadian occupations, sectors, and employers. Contributors who verify their email addresses will receive early access once the platform has collected enough responses to protect participants’ anonymity.

The index could eventually give workers another reference point when evaluating job offers, preparing for salary negotiations, or comparing their compensation with peers in similar roles.

Its value, however, will depend on participation. Crowdsourced salary platforms can provide insights that conventional labour-market statistics often miss, but the accuracy and usefulness of the results will hinge on attracting enough submissions across regions, industries, experience levels, and job functions.

The Peak has built several privacy protections into the platform. Salary submissions are anonymous by default and are stored separately from the email addresses used to verify participants and provide access to the results. Contributors can choose to connect an entry to an account if they want the ability to update or delete it later.

According to the project’s privacy policy, statistics will not be released for groups with fewer than five submissions. Compensation figures will be rounded to the nearest $1,000, while experience will be displayed as a range rather than an exact number.

Employer and city information will also remain hidden until the index has at least 10 similar entries, unless a contributor chooses to waive that protection.

Anonymous contributors receive a one-time removal code that can be used to delete their submission. The platform also randomizes recorded submission times by as much as 72 hours to prevent entries from being connected with other activity.

The Peak has not announced when the complete dataset will become available, saying it will release the information once it has received enough responses to maintain anonymity.

Until then, Canadians willing to talk about their compensation can add their salary and help build a more transparent picture of what work pays across the country.
