One of the biggest takeaways from TD TechCon 2025 was the Bank’s strategic focus on developing tech talent. The Bank recently hosted its third annual TD TechCon, an education conference designed for TD colleagues to expand their tech skills and knowledge.
In an era where technology underpins financial services, TD is making strategic investments to develop and nurture top tech talent. At the heart of TD’s innovation strategy is a commitment to equipping its workforce with future-ready skills. Through upskilling programs, industry partnerships, and the addition of tools which support colleagues like GitHub Copilot, TD is working to help ensure its employees remain at the forefront of financial technology.
Techtalent.ca had the privilege to attend this year’s event, immersing ourselves in the conference. The Bank’s commitment to continuous learning is certainly evident in initiatives like TD TechCon, which fosters knowledge-sharing and collaboration across its tech teams.
Investing in Future-Ready Tech Talent
TD recognizes the future of banking lies in cutting-edge technology, and the company is actively building a pipeline of skilled tech professionals. The Bank is investing in “the jobs of the future” by focusing on critical areas like cloud computing, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence (AI).
A core pillar of the TD tech talent strategy is its commitment to lifelong learning. Through internal training programs and external collaborations, the Bank empowers employees to upskill and adapt to new technologies. As the company’s annual technology conference, TechCon plays a key role in this by bringing together professionals from across TD to explore emerging trends, exchange insights, and engage with industry leaders.
Beyond large-scale events, TD offers specialized training programs which include job shadowing and hands-on simulation for colleagues who are new to working in Scaled Agile, and an array of development courses covering topics such as prompt engineering and psychological safety, which are offered to engineers. There are also active specialized mentorship and coaching programs like Women at TD, and programs for Black colleagues and people with disabilities. The goal is to create a workplace where innovation is fueled by continuous education and professional development.
Embracing AI and the Future of Work
With the rise of GenAI, TD is actively shaping its talent strategy to prepare for a tech-driven future. Licenia Rojas, TD’s Senior VP, Bank Chief Architect and Head of U.S. Customer Platforms, emphasizes the importance of aligning talent development with AI advancements.
“AI is transforming the way we work, and we need to ensure our people have the tools and knowledge to maximize its potential,” Rojas told Techtalent.ca. TD is currently embedding AI learning opportunities into its training programs, helping employees understand how AI can enhance productivity and decision-making.
Strategic Relationships and Industry Collaboration
TD is also leveraging relationships with universities, colleges, and technology organizations like Black Professionals in Technology Network (BPTN) and QueerTech to bridge the talent gap.
QueerTech’s mission is to connect and empower 2SLGBTQ+ professionals and the organization’s CEO Naoufel Testaouni sat on a panel that explored how embracing diversity and inclusion can drive innovation in technology.
“TD and QueerTech go way back. We first worked together in 2017, and since then, TD has consistently shown up—not just as a sponsor, but as an active participant in our events, creating opportunities and making a real impact in our community,” said Testaouni.
By collaborating with educational institutions, TD helps shape curricula that align with real-world industry needs, and helps empower graduates entering the workforce with the skills required to thrive in tech-driven roles.
These efforts reinforce TD as a leader in financial technology innovation. By investing in its workforce and fostering a culture of continuous learning, TD is positioning itself at the forefront of digital banking..
The approach to tech talent development at TD goes beyond filling roles—it’s about creating an ecosystem of innovation where employees are empowered to grow and contribute to meaningful technological advancements. Whether through TechCon, mentorship programs, the introduction of GenAI tools, or industry relationships, TD is working to help shape the future of banking by nurturing the talent that can drive its evolution.
