The restaurant industry is competitive and cutthroat at the best of times but how do you compete with a global pandemic.
Many restaurants had to close suddenly due to the ongoing public health emergency and those that have tried to stay afloat are experiencing a dramatic slowdown in customers.
“As a company that is focused exclusively on the restaurant industry, TouchBistro has also been significantly impacted by COVID-19,” Alex Barrotti, founder and CEO of TouchBistro, told BetaKit in April.
“Most restaurants have been forced to close their doors for the unforeseeable future. While some sadly may never reopen, others have pivoted to offer take out and delivery to their customers. The financial impact to restaurants at this time is unprecedented.”
TouchBistro sells point-of-sale (POS) software and a restaurant management platform specifically for the restaurant industry.
Founded in 2010, TouchBistro’s pre-pandemic growth was impressive. Last year’s Series E funding round paved the way for acquisitions this year of Bookenda, Reso, TableUp and YP Dine and set the company up nicely for a rumored IPO by early 2021.
During the pandemic TouchBistro is supporting restaurant partners through their Restaurant Recovery Navigator program with waived fees for products that can help businesses adapt. They’re also sharing practical industry resources to help small businesses learn more about take-out and food delivery options, as well as best practices on social distancing and restaurant sanitation.
Over the past six months the restaurant industry has changed before our eyes and many of those changes, especially technological shifts, may be here to stay.
Whether is be touch-less menus, mobile ordering, or cashless transactions, TouchBistro’s technology is able to support restaurants as they slowly welcome diners back.
TouchBistro is currently hiring in Toronto and will be participating in the upcoming Tech Talent Toronto Virtual Job Fair on September 23rd.
