Toronto-based Borderless AI has launched Alberni, an AI-powered platform designed to help companies manage the legal and compliance work involved in hiring and operating across international markets.
The company describes Alberni as a legal operating system for global employment law and entity management. It brings together legal expertise and specialized AI agents to support compliance operations across more than 150 international locations.
For employers, expanding into a new market can require more than finding the right talent and running payroll. Each country introduces its own rules governing employment agreements, worker classification, statutory deadlines, workplace requirements, and corporate entities.
These obligations are often managed through a combination of local law firms, consultants, spreadsheets, and internal teams. Borderless AI says Alberni is intended to consolidate that work in a single system and reduce the administrative friction associated with building an international workforce.
The platform supports legal entity formation, maintenance, and compliance monitoring. It also includes workflows for worker classification, regulatory updates, statutory deadlines, and workforce disputes.
Its AI-powered features cover case intake and analysis, document generation, procedural scheduling, and caseload tracking. By keeping information about an organization’s entities, cases, and active jurisdictions in one place, Alberni is designed to provide more tailored assistance as it accumulates company-specific context.

Cross says the complexity and cost of adding local advisers in every new market has long created a barrier for companies seeking to hire globally. Alberni is the company’s attempt to make that compliance layer scalable, allowing employers to expand without growing their legal headcount at the same pace.
The launch builds on Borderless AI’s existing employer-of-record and global payroll business. The Toronto company helps organizations onboard, pay, and manage workers in more than 170 countries, including markets where the employer has not established its own foreign entity.
Alberni broadens that offering by supporting companies that choose to create and operate their own entities. The result is a platform that aims to connect global talent management with the legal infrastructure required to employ people across borders.
The product arrives as artificial intelligence takes on a larger role in human resources and workforce operations. AI tools are increasingly being used to answer employee questions, generate documents, monitor regulatory changes, and automate routine administrative work.
Global employment presents a particularly complex opportunity for this technology. Local requirements can change and may depend on the details of an individual working relationship, making current information and human legal expertise important even when workflows are automated.
