Cloud Security Leader Wiz Expands to Canada with Montreal Data Centre

March 24, 2023 by Knowlton Thomas

Wiz is a digital infrastructure security platform that helps businesses to protect sensitive data and assets in the cloud.

The Israel company, which also has offices in the US, is expanding to Canada following a US$300 million capital raise that values Wiz at $10 billion.

“We are thrilled to announce the availability of our new cloud data center located in Montreal, Canada,” the firm stated this week. “Local and multi-national organizations with a Canadian presence can now benefit from closer geographic proximity while maintaining data sovereignty and privacy requirements.”

Wiz’s new data centre is designed to provide businesses with a fast, secure, and reliable cloud security infrastructure to support mission-critical cloud applications and data.

“With our commitment to data privacy and compliance, we are confident that our new deployment will be a game-changer for businesses operating in Canada and beyond,” the firm said.

Wiz has “strong customer growth and momentum in the Canadian market,” according to the company.

“Wiz’s new data centre demonstrates the company’s ongoing commitment to providing reliable cloud solutions to Canadian businesses and is a major boost for our expanding cloud requirements,” noted Derek Browne, chief information security office of Northbridge Financial Corporation, one of Wiz’s Canadian partners.

With Montreal’s data centre, Canadians can keep all data in the region “and maintain 100% regional data locality.”

Wiz was founded in 2020 by Ami Luttwak, Roy Reznik, Yinon Costica, and Assaf Rappaport.

Luttwak is a cybersecurity expert who has been working in the industry for over two decades. He has held senior positions at high-profile companies, including IBM, where he was a Chief Security Officer.

Alongside Luttwak, Reznik cofounded Adallom, a cloud security company that was later acquired by Microsoft.

Prior to launching Wiz, Rappaport served as a researcher and security architect at Microsoft, where he was responsible for designing and implementing security solutions for various Microsoft products.

And Costica is another cybersecurity expert with over two decades of experience in the industry, as well as an experienced entrepreneur who has founded successful startups in the past.

Luttwak has stated that he and his co-founders wanted to create a platform that was “simple, intuitive, and effective” in protecting cloud environments. Wiz provides companies “with the tools they need to secure their cloud environments and protect their most valuable assets,” Reznik added. Costica said Wiz was founded to “address the challenges of securing cloud infrastructure in a simple and effective way.”
