It seems now that every month some corporation or government in Canada is being attacked on a digital level.
Readers of TechTalent.ca are aware by now that our nation has long been grappling with a dearth of cybersecurity—and many have paid tolls as a result.
Total employment in Canada’s cybersecurity sector did rise in 2023, a report from Upskill Canada and Deloitte found, but a significant number of positions remain unfilled across the country.
Amid a slew of counter-measures to the talent void is a targeted program from B.C.-born talent supplier Lighthouse Labs.
Funded by Upskill Canada (powered by Palette Skills), and the Government of Canada, Lighthouse Labs is offering Canadian workers “the opportunity to find new careers through skills training and job placement in the rapidly growing cybersecurity sector.”
“The number of cyber attacks and incidents in Canada has been unprecedented, and as a result, the industry need for skilled cyber security professionals is at an all-time high,” Jeremy Shaki, CEO of Lighthouse Labs, stated in December.
Initially launched in 2021, Lighthouse Labs’ Cybersecurity Bootcamp Program runs 12 weeks in length on a full-time basis and utilizes industry-aligned curriculums with experienced tutors while offering personalized career services support.
Topics covered throughout the courses include server administration, network security, threat modelling and analysis, and incident response.
Shaki points out that cybersecurity-specific experience is not required to enter either program, and also that the cost of the program has been subsidized; Lighthouse’s education offering now costs $3,500, down from its original price tag of $14,000.
Those interested in joining one of Lighthouse Labs’ cybersecurity programs can attend a free Info Session on June 4.
“Members of our team and alumni will be there to speak about what Lighthouse Labs is all about, our education methodologies [and] philosophies, and what to expect from our courses,” an online description of the upcoming even reads. “This free, casual environment is a great place to satisfy your curiosity and learn more about what it’s like to study at Lighthouse Labs and start your career in technology.”
The next wave of Bootcamp cohorts are slated to start in June, July, August, and September, and spots are filling up quickly.
