Foresight Canada Launches Program to Upskill Engineers for Sustainable Manufacturing

October 29, 2024 by Robert Lewis

Today, Foresight Canada unveiled the Advanced Manufacturing Engineers Upskilling Program (AME-UP), a new initiative aimed at equipping engineers with the specialized skills needed for sustainable manufacturing in Canada’s rapidly evolving advanced manufacturing sector.

Funded by Upskill Canada, and supported by Palette Skills and the Government of Canada, the AME-UP program represents a significant step in a national effort to align workforce skills with industry demands.

The launch of AME-UP comes as Canada’s advanced manufacturing sector faces growing pressure to adopt sustainable practices to meet climate goals and maintain global competitiveness.

Traditional manufacturing methods are increasingly viewed as high-emission, wasteful, and inefficient, amplifying the need for cleantech-driven approaches like energy-efficient technologies and waste reduction. However, industry leaders point to a critical shortage of workers trained in these new methods as a significant barrier to change.

Addressing this gap, Foresight Canada’s 16-week AME-UP program offers a unique blend of hands-on experience, industry-specific training, and real-world project work with cleantech employers. This approach is designed not only to provide engineers with direct entry into clean manufacturing roles but also to give employers access to skilled talent through Work Integrated Learning (WIL), creating a future-ready workforce attuned to sustainability.

AME-UP offers a unique opportunity for employers seeking skilled professionals in sustainable manufacturing or individuals looking to transition into cleantech roles. Applications are open now, positioning participants to drive Canada’s push toward sustainable industry transformation.
