After a year in the US, Coinbase’s “Stand with Crypto” campaign recently expanded north to Canada‘s five million coin holders.
The move was part of the fintech giant’s efforts “towards driving regulatory clarity in Canada,” according to Coinbase Canada chief executive Lucas Matheson.
“We believe that Coinbase is uniquely positioned to capitalize from regulatory clarity and help Canada be a leader in the industry,” he said over the summer.
Coinbase’s expansion of Stand with Crypto into Canada follows a conscious effort for the company to “go deeper” into international markets.
Ranked as the world’s third-most crypto-aware nation, Canada possesses an “enthusiastic tech ecosystem that has the potential to be a leader in the global crypto economy,” according to Coinbase.
That is why Coinbase is an investor in multiple Canadian crypto startups, including Fintech.ca notables MinervaAI from Toronto and Dapper Labs out of Vancouver, as well as Axelar, Horizon Blockchain Games, and Zapper.
In fact, Canada is currently the company’s largest technology and talent hub outside of the US, employing more than 200 full-time workers in Canada since hiring here starting in 2021.
And moving forward, Coinbase’s Canadian team is poised to further expand, Matheson recently revealed.
“We’re hiring in Canada,” the Canadian chief posted on LinkedIn.
Matheson noted that there are currently more than 40 open roles available at Coinbase Canada, ranging from a variety of engineering-related roles to machine learning, marketing, product, and security positions.
But the crypto company may not be everyone’s cup of tea.
“Working at Coinbase is not for the faint of heart,” warns L J Brock, chief people officer for Coinbase. “But for those who are purpose-driven, high-achieving, action-oriented, and convicted in the potential of crypto, there is no better place to be.”
Brock points to top talent being the fintech’s top operating priority.
“We’re always looking to improve on this dimension,” says Brock.
To achieve this, Coinbase “casts a wide net to attract candidates from every background, focusing on both skill and culture alignment.”
“We are focused on finding star individual performers and measure that by proven real-world impact,” says Brock. “We want people who push us to be better, who raise our energy, and who are far better than us in at least one area.”
The chief of people promises hires will be “surrounded by outlier talent who work incredibly hard . . . and you will have the opportunity to do the best work of your life.”
