Amid Hiring Push for AI Skills, Pinterest Taps Top-Tier Tech Talent in Toronto

April 17, 2024 by Knowlton Thomas

A San Francisco technology titan has big plans for the 6ix.

In North America, Pinterest boasts eight offices—but only one in Canada.

Pinterest’s Toronto office is an important one, however, as the company seeks to fill it full of A.I. and machine learning talent to power its next generation of products and services.

“You’ve got such great machine learning talent in Toronto,” Pinterest chief technology officer Jeremy King King informed BetaKit. “We’ve been continually impressed by the calibre of engineering talent in the market that we want to continue to invest in the region.”

The Toronto office currently has 14 open positions—more than any other Pinterest office in North America outside its San Fran HQ.

Over the course of the year, Pinterest intends to hire for more than three dozen engineering roles, adding to an existing roster of nearly 100.

Currently open roles include data scientist, machine learning engineer, software engineer, and more.

King told BK that Canadian universities, including Toronto, Waterloo, and McGill supply some of the world’s top-tier machine learning talent.

Pinterest first opened a Canadian office in 2019, the year the company went public, and then expanded it with an engineering department in 2021.

Today, the tech giant is valued at over $30 billion.

Other US techies firming their foothold North of the border include cloud company Snowflake and crypto titan Coinbase.

Those looking to be in-demand in the job market should consider skilling up for AI roles.
