For years, Metrolinx has been adopting the latest technology to improve the experience of public transportation in the Greater Toronto Area.
In 2009, it was the bold launch of PRESTO, still in use today. This year, the Crown agency has been expanding its rollout of “automatic train control,” a state-of-the-art tech deployed in world-class train networks throughout Japan and Europe.
ATC benefits riders in a few ways, Metrolinx says, including increases in service frequency by enabling trains to run closer together without compromising safety.
In fact, the transit titan says ATC actually enhances safety by utilizing onboard controller technology which transmits speed, braking distance, and other important data back to the project control centre in real-time. Inside the control centre, operators know the location of each train and can authorize movements based on the data coming in to maximize train frequency and optimize spacing.
As Metrolinx continues to leverage tech to improve operations—and as the region the agency oversees expands rapidly in population—there is a need to bolster the organization’s workforce to support further innovation.
As a result, Metrolinx is actively hiring.
“At Metrolinx, we believe individual differences and unique stories are at the core of our innovative culture and positive employee experience,” the company states online, promising “exciting job opportunities in Toronto and across Ontario in a variety of fields and disciplines.”
There are opportunities at Metrolinx inside and outside of tech, from spearheading new projects to bus driving to crunching big data—and everything in between.
And despite the range, the organization proudly claims cultural cohesion.
“Our workforce thrives on collaboration and innovation between employees from various departments and fields, such as construction and maintenance, marketing, communications, customer-facing staff, engineering, and many others,” Metrolinx explains. “Teamwork is a key part of our mandate.”
Metrolinx plans to signal its desire for growth at February’s hotly anticipated Techtalent.ca Job Fair powered by Lighthouse Labs—the first in-person affair since 2020.
More than 500 companies have used Tech Talent Canada’s job fairs to hire top talent in-person and virtually, says Rob Lewis, founder of Techtalent.ca.
He notes that his famous job fairs are popular because they offer a a unique twist: “Hiring companies showcase their employer brand and pitch to a crowd of skilled candidates on why they’re the best place to around.”
This allows talent to align their values with the right company in order to forge an epic career path, according to Lewis.
