Workday Bolsters Canadian Presence with Major Investment into Tech Talent

January 22, 2026 by Knowlton Thomas

Workday is investing heavily into Canadian tech talent, the Silicon Valley software giant announced this week.

The California company—whose platform operates at the intersection of Human Resources, finance, and AI—unveiled intentions to invest $1 billion in Canada over the next five years.

The investment includes “plans to further develop local tech talent.”

“Workday’s roots in Canada run deep,” says chief executive officer Carl Eschenbach. “For more than two decades, we’ve been proud to work alongside the country’s world-class technology talent in service of our customers’ evolving needs.”

Canada is one of Workday’s largest markets worldwide, Eschenbach notes, with over 1,100 employees serving over 500 customers from various industries including financial services, technology, and retail.

“As we continue to redefine [enterprise resource planning] for the AI era, this $1 billion investment over the next five years will help shape Canada’s digital future while supporting organizations to rethink how work gets done with AI-powered, human-centric systems,” stated Eschenbach.

A “core component” of Workday’s commitment to Canada is “continued investment in local tech talent across key areas such as AI development, engineering, product innovation, customer support, and field operations,” according to a statement from the firm.

Canada already “plays a leading role in Workday’s global product and technology organization,” the company says, with major teams in Toronto and Vancouver and additional offices in Victoria, Montreal, and Calgary.

Workday says it will also engage universities and academic institutions to develop the next generation of technology leaders.

With over 20,000 employee worldwide, Workday is today used by more than 11,000 organizations, including two-thirds of Fortune 500 firms.

Workday was founded in 2005 by Dave Duffield and Aneel Bhusri.
