Spirits may be down but not every tech company is feeling the headwind. For example, SkyBox Labs is expanding.
The Burnaby-born AAA game developer is opening multiple new development offices in the Metro Vancouver region, it announced recently. The BC company, founded in 2011, is known for games such as Halo Infinte, and involvement with major brands like Wizards of the Coast, maker of the widely popular Magic: The Gathering Arena.
The expansion plan is comprised of three new offices, SkyLabs stated, including two near the company’s headquarters and one more remote.
SkyBox Solo will be a 20,000-square-foot space in Burnaby’s “Amazing Brentwood” area, an emerging urban hotspot outside of Vancouver proper. At 12,000 square feet and also in Burnaby, SkyBox Metropolis will open near Metropolis at Metrotown. A smaller third studio, SkyBox Victoria, will launch on Vancover Island.
“With Halo Infinite, our team was able to showcase more than just our engineering skills,” said Shyang Kong, cofounder SkyBox Labs, including UX/UI, design, animation, character and environment art, production, and QA.
Kong says SkyBox plans to grow its workforce to at least 250 members by the end of this year. Currently, the company employs around 200 people.
According to a statement from the company, it is “actively hiring for engineers, designers, producers, artists and more” as the team continues work on Halo Infinite and Fallout 76, as well as “a number of upcoming unannounced titles including partner projects and internal IP.”
