As AI Takes Over Work, LinkedIn Reveals This Year’s Most In-Demand Skills

February 8, 2024 by Knowlton Thomas

LinkedIn data shows that skillsets for jobs have changed 25% since 2015 and are projected to shift by 65% by 2030.

And the company’s last “Future of Work Report” found that a majority of executives no longer consider the traditional four-year degree as essential to an organization’s success.

Indeed, the skillsets hiring managers seek are shifting as we move forward into an era of “AI at work.”

But LinkedIn argues that the boom of artificial intelligence “stands to make your core skills more valuable, not less.”

LinkedIn’s 2024 Most In-Demand Skills list reveals a renewed value in age-old fundamental skills such as communication, leadership, collaboration, creativity. These so-called “soft skills” are being rebranded as “durable” or “evergreen” skills.

To truly stay evergreen, one should consider the “skill of the moment”—adaptability. As uncertainty rises, a flexible stoicism in the face of adversity will allow workers to remain on their optimal career path long-term.

“Adaptability is the best way to have agency right now,” stated LinkedIn Vice President Aneesh Raman. “At the core of managing change is building that muscle of adaptability.”

The most in-demand skills of 2024 are ranked below. LinkedIn offers online learning courses for every skill.

1. Communication

2. Customer service

3. Leadership

4. Project management

5. Management

6. Analytics

7. Teamwork

8. Sales

9. Problem-solving

10. Research

“In a world continuously transformed by artificial intelligence, the enduring value of uniquely human skills should reinforce a fundamental truth: that the changing world of work needs people who are more thoughtful, more curious, and more skilled at navigating change than ever before,” writes LinkedIn content strategist Sonya Bessalel. “So no matter your role or goals this year, the trick to thriving in this era of change is to embrace it. Communicate and stay adaptable, acquire skills that will help you advance in your career, and you’ll go far.”
