Growing Companies Seek to Bolster Workforces with Tech Talent in Canada

June 8, 2024 by Knowlton Thomas

Hiring in tech slowed down after the pandemic bubble burst, and many were impacted.

Slowing down is not stopping, however, and as always, tech finds a way to forge onward.

Indeed, 2024 is witnessing something of a quiet resurgence in hiring activity as companies across Canada continue to seek growth and skilled workers.

Below, we highlight just a small sample of the many firms actively hunting for skilled tech talent throughout the nation.

Garmin

Marc Andreessen was prescient in 2011 when he declared that “software was eating the world.” But a brain needs a body, and hardware is still around because software can’t do it all alone.

Garmin, a longstanding innovator of wearable technology, is seeking a Senior Hardware Design Engineer with extensive circuit design experience for consumer products to work in a hybrid capacity out of its Calgary office.

Absorb Software

Another Calgary-born opportunity hails from Absorb Software, a learning tech company with remote workers throughout the world.

Absorb offers both Absorb Infuse, a learning experience platform, and Absorb LMS, a learning management system for businesses, higher education, government, and non-profit agencies.

The company is looking for a Paid Search Specialist and more.

Thomson Reuters

TR made waves last year when it announced $100M in annual expenditure earmarked for investment across the sphere of AI.

The investment includes hiring and skilling an AI-ready workforce. Thomson Reuters Labs, for example—which supports TR through applied research—is actively hiring for a variety of AI-related roles in Toronto and beyond. Positions available include Machine Learning Scientist and Software Engineer.

Slalom

Slalom is a global business and technology consulting company founded in 2001 with 13,000 team members across eight countries.

Open positions in Canada include Senior Architect of Software Development, Principal of Data and Analytics, and Senior Technical Delivery Leader.

PurposeMed

PurposeMed was founded in 2019 with the mission of improving access to complex care for underserved communities. Today the company serves thousands of patients each month across three business units: Freddie, Frida, and Foria.

PurposeMed is currently hiring for technical roles such as Senior UX Researcher as well as healthcare roles such as Nurse Practitioner.

Techtalent.ca Job Fair

Most of the companies we just mentioned are hiring on the Techtalent.ca Job Board, a free resource for finding your next career opportunity.

Some are also eager to hire you on June 25, when the seasonal Techtalent.ca Job Fair returns with an online edition.

Our iconic Job Fair is a quarterly event that connects growing Canadian companies with top talent across the country—where, in a unique twist, hiring companies show off their employer brand to skilled candidates on why they’re the best place to around.

Over the past few years, more than 400 companies have used Techtalent.ca’s job fairs to hire top talent in-person and virtually.
