AI is Reshaping Talent Management Faster Than HR Can Design Frameworks

August 20, 2026 by Knowlton Thomas

A longstanding talent management organization is suggesting that artificial intelligence technology is evolving faster than our “ability to understand what good AI-human performance looks like.”

Talogy was born in 1946 when psychology pioneers launched assessment initiatives to help young adults and war veterans enter the workforce following the second world war.

As one can imagine, the field has changed significantly since then, and today appears to be evolving as rapidly as ever.

New research from Talogy, conducted among senior talent leaders across North America and the United Kingdom, found human resource departments expressing concern around the speed of AI adoption and how it is outpacing skills assessment tools.

“AI is reshaping talent management faster than most HR teams can design frameworks,” says Dawn Curless, who functions as vice president of Global Marketing at Talogy.

78% face major challenges when assessing AI skills, according to data from Talogy, with fewer than 40% feeling “very prepared” to adapt traditional job descriptions and career paths for an AI-empowered landscape.

When asked about assessing AI fluency, 78% of HR experts emphasized that future assessments must move beyond technical tool proficiency to provide a more thorough evaluation of AI readiness, including critical judgment and data literacy.

For those seeking to impress as talent, the most important capabilities listed by leaders are Proficiency with AI tools and High data literacy. Following closely to round out the top five, though, are notably “softer” skills: Adaptability, Problem solving, and Critical Thinking/Judgement.

The next problem to solve, according to Talogy, is understanding how these capabilities can work collaboratively in a real-life setting, and how they can be measured accurately and consistently.

“The challenge organizations now face is defining, assessing, and developing the relevant transferable skills needed to drive better outcomes alongside AI,” Curless believes.

“From identifying and developing high potential talent to mapping emotional intelligence and cognitive ability to support a strong company culture, it’s vital to combine proven scientific methodology with the flexibility HR leaders need to adapt to specific roles and career paths,” stated Curless.
