Stripe, a financial infrastructure platform for businesses, has opened a new flagship office in Toronto, highlighting its commitment to Canada and signalling plans to expand its workforce.
The decision reflects Toronto’s status as the fourth-largest tech talent hub in North America, providing a strategic location for Stripe to grow its employee base.
The expansion aims to support the increasing number of Canadian companies relying on Stripe’s financial tools. Stripe already serves a diverse range of clients, including fast-growing startups like Workleap and Thinkific, as well as major enterprises such as Shopify, Enercare, FreshBooks, and SkipTheDishes.
With thousands of Canadian companies joining Stripe each day, the company is looking to expand its team to meet the rising demand.
“After more than a decade in Canada, we’re proud to support many of the country’s most successful startups and enterprises,” said Matthew Burlak, head of Canada GTM at Stripe. “We’re looking forward to growing our team and accelerating the success of even more Canadian businesses.”
Stripe’s presence in Canada has grown significantly in recent years. Between 2021 and 2023, payment volume from Canadian companies increased by more than 50%, as businesses across the country leveraged Stripe’s platform to expand revenue streams and launch new business models. Shopify, a long-time partner, uses Stripe for Shopify Payments, Shopify Balance, and in-person payments, underscoring the platform’s versatility.
Kaz Nejatian, COO at Shopify, welcomed Stripe’s increased commitment to Canada: “We’re thrilled for other Canadian businesses to benefit from Stripe’s growing commitment and long-term investment in Canada.”
By expanding its Toronto office and hiring more local talent, Stripe aims to strengthen its support for Canadian enterprises and accelerate its growth across the country.
